The term green is seen as a buzzword for being environmentally responsible. The green movement has many forms, this research paper will specically focus onrecycling and green building. Recycling Recycling is a simple and important way to participate in the green movement.Recycle is dened in the dictionary as converting waste into a reusable material. Recyclinghas been a common practice for most of human history, with recorded advocates as farback as Plato in 400 BC. During periods when resources were scarce, archaeologicalstudies of ancient waste dumps show less household waste (such as ash, broken tools andpottery)—implying more waste was being recycled in the absence of new material (1) . Green Building Green Building is a general term used to describe high quality construction that isenvironmentally conscious and extremely energy efcient. The green build processincludes everything from site choice, designing strategically, conscientious constructionpractices, quality control, and water conservation use (2) . The remainder of this paper will explore both sides of the issue and what can, can't,should, and shouldn't be done. My hope is that for either side a discussion will be raised tobenet each other and our planet.  Pro-Environmental Actions 4 Arguments For:  There are many, many, many arguments for recycling and green-building. For thebriefness of this research paper, we will only cover a handful of them. Substituting naturalproducts for manufactured ones, such as using coconut oil as opposed to shaving cream.Installing a water lter in your home and relling a bottles as opposed to purchasingbottled water can save you thousands dollars. Limiting excess behavior, such as cuttingback on hamburgers and steaks can save more than driving a hybrid car. The need for more power plants is another a major misconception, by switchinglighting in the U.S. to more energy-efcient compact-uorescent or LED or Light-emittingdiode lighting would save billions of dollars and cut the need for twenty-four power plants.Which is similar to informing an very obese person that they can thrive on half thecalories they consume. Once everyone is in shape and being efcient, we can meet all ourneed and goal easier.Green Building is an industry that is changing, growing, and growing at an inspiringrate and pace, but this can be said for any business the is strongly addressingsustainability. General acceptance by individuals, companies and organizations of thisconcept has created a varying degree of knowledge of what is actually in the process. There has also been benets in operations costs, human health and increased quality anddurability.
